An internationally recognised singer in his own right, Max Chang Min may now add acting to his portfolio with his first lead role in the highly anticipated melodrama, Paradise Ranch. Featuring the beautiful rural pastures of Australia and South Korea’s Jeju Island, the drama tells the story of a young couple who marry early, only to divorce not long after. Fate causes them to meet again a few years on and they discover that remnants of their past love still remain.

Despite Paradise Ranch being his major acting debut, Max is no stranger to the field. In 2005, the 23-year-old starred alongside his TVXQ members in a few episodes of Banjun Drama, a popular miniseries which aired on SBS network. The famous quintet also appeared in the miniseries Vacation the following year. Max was the first choice for the drama Snow Flower but he was forced to reject the role due to his band’s packed schedule.

The future of both Max’s acting and singing career seems bright. His musical group, TVXQ (now a duo), recently released their latest album entitled Keep Your Head Down after a two year hiatus. The album offers songs by famed composers such as Kenzie, E-TRIBE and Outsidaz and sold 15,000 copies in a single day.

Max’s journey to international stardom began when he followed his friend to an SM Entertainment talent contest. Then a 12-year-old, Max unexpectedly won the Best Singer and Best Artist awards after impressing the judges with his powerful voice.

He joined TVXQ under the name Choi Kang Chang Min. Choi Kang is translated as “Most Powerful” and Max became the international version of this name. The quintet went on to becoming one of the biggest bands in Asia, boasting popularity not only in Korea but also in Japan as well as in Southeast Asia.

The youngest member of TVXQ is known for his amazing vocal range. Max admits that he doesn’t know what octave his highest note goes up to for fear that knowing might interrupt his singing.

Wanting to grow as a musician, Max has also tried his hand at songwriting; he wrote the lyrics for Evergreen in the SM Town 2007 album and the Korean lyrics for Love In The Ice.

Crazy fan girls are a testament to one’s popularity and Max definitely has plenty of them. In fact, some went as far as breaking into TVXQ’s apartment and stealing his underwear.

The first-born son of two teachers, Max is not only an outstanding entertainer but an intelligent student as well. He scored himself a spot in one of the top universities in South Korea, Kyung Hee University, and now majors in postmodern music.

Despite his hectic schedule, the young star still manages to squeeze in a little community work. In January 2008, Max and his father helped in cleaning up beaches following South Korea’s worst oil spill in history. Unlike most other celebrities who use volunteer work for publicity, Max carried out the good deed in secret.
