Ricky Kim's real jobs – being a father and a husband!

Dashing dad Ricky Kim and his family were in Singapore last weekend for a meet-and-greet session with fans at the 'ONE Family Day Out with Ricky Kim & Kids'. Here are 7 new things we learnt about the doting father and his family – read on to find out what they are!

  1. Ricky is a middle child with one older brother and one younger brother.
Growing up, all Ricky wanted to do was to follow his older brother around and do what he did – this is something he sees in Tae Rin and Tae Oh as well! He shared that Tae Oh loves being with his sister and wants to do everything with her, but Tae Rin doesn't always feel the same way. This can be a source of conflict, since Tae Oh will do anything and everything to get her attention, even if it means making her mad!
  2. Ricky has his priorities in life set out very clearly.

In Ricky's words, his first job is being a husband; his second job is being a father; his third job is being a son; his fourth job being a friend; and oh, by the way, he's also an actor and entertainer. Altogether now, can we say "Aww!"?
  3. His best takeaway from 'Oh! My Baby' is the additional time he gets to spend with his family.

Being on the show means "extra weekends" for Ricky, and he gets to spend them doing what he loves – being around his family. It's a great opportunity for him as he gets to work and also be with his family at the same time.
  4. Ricky and family keep it very real on 'Oh! My Baby'.
It's reality television taken very literally, as nothing is off limits. Off-camera, Ricky and his family are exactly the same as they appear during the show. Ricky only had one ground rule when he agreed to be on the show: "Do not interfere with the way I raise my children."
  5. On how he punishes his children when they misbehave.
Ricky has different levels of punishment for his children. For instance, spanking has little effect on Tae Oh, but spanking Tae Rin even a little hurts her emotionally. His go-to punishment? Making them think. If Tae Rin and Tae Oh fight with each other, he gets them to stand against the wall, put their hands up and think about what they did wrong. Once they have done that, they must then tell each other what they like about the other.
  6. Quite evidently, Tae Rin and Tae Oh have very different personalities.

Tae Rin is a princess – when they were in China earlier for a fashion show, she loved being on stage and she loved being able to change clothes for the show. Tae Oh, on the other hand, just loves to play and eat and run. In Ricky's words, his son is "crazy"!
  7. Ricky doesn't pressure his children to learn English.
While he does speak in English to his children at times, Ricky doesn't make it a must for them to pick up the language. Ricky himself only learnt Korean when he was 24, so he isn't bothered about having his children learn English, as he feels they will naturally do so when they need to.
