Cheongdam-dong Alice to Live It Up on ONE
Singapore, 2 April 2013 – Haven’t we all dreamt of enjoying a life of designer goods, gourmet food, luxury comforts and a carefree lifestyle each day? While most of us can only wonder what a high life would be like, and whether true happiness can really be found amongst the rich and famous, ONE may have just the answer for you in its latest Korean drama series, Cheongdam-Dong Alice!
Premiering on 17 April and airing from Mondays to Thursdays at 7.40pm first and exclusively on ONE, Cheongdam-Dong Alice stars Moon Geun Young (Painter of the Wind) and Park Si Hoo (Confession of Murder, Prosecutor Princess) in a series that follows Moon’s character’s ‘fish-out-of-water’ experience amongst the elite in the exclusive and extremely well-off world of luxury and materialism of Cheongdam-Dong neighbourhood of Gangnam district in Seoul.
Believing in ‘L‘effort est ma force (Hard work is my strength)’, Han Se Kyung works through all the hardships in life with optimism and lands her dream job at apparel firm GN Fashion - only to be made the errand girl to Seo Yoon-joo (So Yi Hyun, Swallow the Sun), the wife of the company’s president and her rival back at school. The stark difference between her life and Seo’s drives Han to want to be like her, to marry rich.
Getting Seo’s help in her quest to become a ‘Cheongdam-dong daughter-in-law’, Han tries to become the upscale, fashionable lady that marries into the social upper crust in Cheongdam-dong. And Han’s life changes when she meets Jean Thierry Cha, played by Park Si-hoo, Korea’s youngest chief executive in the luxury-brand market, who is a high-flying but petty. Despite being very successful, he has a dark side that makes him constantly want to get back at those he thinks have hurt him, and especially despises materialistic women. Having been hurt in love, Cha believes that he will never trust women again but wishes for true love more than anyone else…
Inspired from the South Korean novel ‘Cheongdam-dong Audrey’ by Lee Hye-kyung, Cheongdam-dong Alice is the brainchild of screenwriters Kim Ji-woon and Kim Jin-hee who were also responsible for Deep Rooted Tree to spotlight the ‘splendour and vanity’ of the ‘Beverly Hills of Seoul’ realistically, to enable viewers to question whether wealth is everything as well as the true definition of happiness.
Cheongdam-dong Alice is both Park and Moon's comeback TV drama series, since their last small screen appearances in 2011 and 2010 respectively. The series also offered a debut acting role for Shin Hye-jeong of Korean pop female group AOA, as she plays Han Se-jin, Han Se Kyung’s younger sister.
A warm and cheerful tale about seeking true happiness awaits as Cheongdam-Dong Alice is set to live it up across Asia this April, first and exclusively on ONE.
