It’s hard to imagine that a degree in Mechanical Engineering could ever lead to a career in the South Korean entertainment industry, but that is exactly what happened for Nam Goong Min, and we as fans could not be happier about this switch!
Nam Goong Min began his acting career in 2001 with a small role in the hit film Bungee Jumping of Their Own, but his big break came when he starred as the villainous, two-faced Chef Kwon Jae Hee in The Girl Who Sees Smells back in 2015. Though he is known for his warm smiles, Nam Goong Min is one of those actors who can make even a smile turn menacing in the blink of an eye – to the extent that he creeped out an interviewer in a previous interview!
In the same year, he also decided to give directing and script-writing a try in a bid to grow further as an actor. His directorial debut – the mystery thriller short film Light My Fire – featured appearances by other actors including Park Jin Joo and Jung In Ki, both of whom he collaborated with on The Girl Who Sees Smells.
After receiving much acclaim for his first villain role, Nam Goong Min followed up with another baddie role in Remember as the terrifying Nam Gyu Man, cementing his reputation as an actor adept at playing such roles. His character in Pretty Ugly thus came as a surprise to viewers, where he plays a quirky goofball lawyer with no qualms about eating off the floor.
With a wide range of projects under his belt, Nam Gong Min has certainly proven his proficiency at playing wildly different characters – we sure are excited to see more!
